drums.mid · 96 bpmThe list editor beside the roll: each note a row, its position in bar, beat, division and tick, and its velocity in binary. Faults in coral.
Presets
Velocity table: the highest velocity in bar 2 is 112, in binary 1110000, on kick; the lowest is 62, 0111110, on closed hat. 8 different values in the bar.AO3"1 mark for decimal, 1 for binary; allow preceding 0s" (2024, 2025). Seven digits because a data byte keeps its first bit at 0: "Byte is 8 bits but first bit is used / always 0 (1); (to indicate) data byte (1); velocity is 7 bits (1); 2^7 (1)" (2026).AO4Write it in that order: what the file holds is AO3; what the scheme asks and the fix are AO4, as is the practical mark.
Level
Play runs the four bars round, one part at a time, as the paper bounces it. Hold: the example plays the file the way the paper's example does (the right sounds, the right range, every note) while you hold it. The space bar plays and stops.
PartDrums
an acoustic kit, channel 10
The papers hand over two MIDI files: the drums ("drums.mid", assigned to a kit) and a bass or synth part. One plays at a time, as the paper bounces them. The kit is the stem's word: "using an acoustic drum kit" loses marks on a drum machine.
QuantiseOff
strength
notes where they were played
The grid and how hard the notes are pulled to it. The paper's value is the smallest note value in the part; 1/12 is the triplet grid. Strength under 100 is percentage quantise, which the 2025 scheme names as a feel. Notes that move draw a dashed ghost where they were.
NoteC1
112 · 1110000
kick · 1 1 1 0
The selected note: its name and number, its velocity in decimal (and in binary from A-level), its position in bar, beat, division and tick. Drag it on the roll to move it in time or onto another row; the dial and the lane both set the velocity.
SoundKick
on row C1 (36)
The sound the selected note's row plays: the drum map. The papers' fix for "assigned to the incorrect sounds" is here, on the kit, never on the roll: "you should not change the rhythm".

all from the notes, the map, the grid and the range
Every word here comes from the file: how the timing sits against the grid, how many notes and which is selected, the loudest and quietest velocity in bar 2 (the table every paper asks for), and whether the file passes the check the preset set.
